Rooms and Accommodation

1. What types of accommodation is available at Kvikkjokk Mountain Lodge?

There are single-, twin-, triple- and dorm rooms with four beds. All rooms have a youth hostel standard with a sink in the room and shared shower and toilet. Some rooms have a sofa bed. The dorm rooms have four or five beds and are available for women, men or mixed, depending on preference.

2. What are my benefits as a member of the STF?

A valid membership in STF gives you a discount of 100 SEK per night in any kind of room. If you travel with children, the offer "free children in the mountains" during the winter holidays and Easter is valid and allows for one child per adult to come along for no extra charge. 

3. What time is check in and check out?

Check-in is no earlier than 12:00 pm and check out is by 10:00 am.

4. If you come after reception has closed, how do you get the key?

Tell us if you arrive late. We will then put the key in an envelope with your name on it at the front desk.

 5. Is there a duvet and pillow in the rooms?

There are duvets and pillows in every room. But unless you bring a sleeping bag or bed linen you need to rent a set in the reception.

6. Do I need to pre-book my room?

If you want to be sure to get the room type or price you want then you should book in advance. Everyone who arrives will always be offered shelter, but arriving without a reservation may mean that you can be assigned the most expensive accommodation if that is all that is available.

7. Do I have to share a room?

It depends on what type of room you book. A bed involves sharing with other guests in a dorm room. If you want to be sure that you get your own room, it is recommended that you book in advance.

8. Is there a drying room?

Yes, there are drying rooms in both buildings.  



Reception, retail and rental

1. What times are the reception and shop open?  

Reception and store hours may vary. For exact opening hours call the front desk at +46 (0) 971-210 22.

 

 2.  What selection is available in the store?   

The shop is a mix of food: both fresh produce and dry goods, as well as some outdoor gear. You can find what you need for a mountain tour. We have maps, insect repellent, mosquito hats, alcohol fuels and gasoline for outdoor stoves.  

3. What can be rented?

There are snowshoes, forest skis and poles, field kitchens, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, etc. Our range of rental items are under construction. We currently have no ski sleds for rent. Please contact us to find out what"s available, tel. +46 (0)971-210 22, info@kvikkjokkfjallstation.se 



Food & Drink

1. What"s on the buffet?

Our breakfast buffet includes a variety of things such as yoghurt, porridge, various cereals, homemade bread with lots of toppings, eggs, juice, coffee and tea.

2. What"s in the lunch box?

You make your own sandwiches and get a fruit, a bag with a raisin- and nut mix, a piece of chocolate and a bun. You can choose from various kinds of soups, coffee, tea and cocoa powder if you have a thermos with you. If you leave the thermos the night before we can make sure that it is filled with hot water in the morning before you head out on tour.

3. Do you serve lunch?

During peak season we serve lunch, the house burger and other simpler meals between the hours of 12:00 to 16:00. During the off-season lunch can be pre-booked one day before arrival.

4. Do you serve dinner?

Every night during the high season we serve a three-course dinner. You can also select dishes from the à la carte menu. Special diets are no problem, just let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. During the low season we serve à la carte dishes.

5. Do I have to  pre-order the meals?

Breakfast need to be booked in advance. We prefer that you order dinner too, but it"s not required. Larger groups should pre-book for the best service and a guaranteed spot.

6. Can I cook my own food?

We have a well-equipped self-catering kitchen in the main building where it"s possible to cook. There is also a refrigerator and a freezer where you can store your groceries during your stay. Label food with your room number and departure date.

7. I have allergies, can I eat at the restaurant?

We have alternatives, except for trace and airborne allergies.

8. I am vegetarian/vegan, can I eat at the restaurant?

We have alternatives for vegetarians and vegans.



Transportation

1. How should I book my ticket to Kvikkjokk?

For travel by train and bus, it is best to book a Tågplusbiljett, i.e to book even the bus through the train company. In case of delays the train company is then responsible to arrange bus or taxi transfer between the bus and train station.

 

 2. When is the next bus to/from Kvikkjokk?

Bus 94 departs daily during the high season between Kvikkjokk and the train station in Murjek, via Jokkmokk. During the winter and off-season you take bus 47 between Kvikkjokk and Jokkmokk.  3. How are the train and air travel connections to/from Kvikkjokk?

4. When does the boat to and from Padjelantaleden, Kungsleden south and Vallevare depart/arrive?

5. How far is it to the boat from the mountain station?

It is approximately 200 meters. 

6. Is it possible to get a car transport to / from the heliport?

Yes, we can drive our guests if transport is required. Call in advance. 

7. Who should be contacted to book helicopter transportation in the area?

8. Is it possible to book a snowmobile transport?

9. How far is it between the bus stop and the mountain lodge?

It is approximately 150 meters. The bus stop is along the Kvikkjokk road, next to the church in the middle of the village.



Supplementary Service

1. Can you bring your dog to the mountain station?

It"s fine to bring the dog. We recommend that you book your accommodation if you travel with your dog, as there is a limited number of rooms where dogs are allowed.

2. Are you allowed to have the dog in public areas?

No, you can not bring the dog inside public areas due to allergies.

 3. Do you have internet?

We have free Wi-Fi for our guests in the public areas in the main building. There is also a guest computer you can use during reception hours. 

4. Where is the car parking lot?

The public road, the main road which runs through the village ends at the parking lot. Between the parking lot and Kvikkjokk Mountain Lodge there is a footpath.

5. Do you have a caravan park?

6. Can you send parcels to Kvikkjokk Mountain Lodge for later retrieval?

Yeah, it"s fine to send packets. Mark it with your name and when you expect to retrieve it. Depending on the amount of time we store the parcel and if you are a guest or not, we will charge a small fee. Bussgods (http://www.bussgods.se) is the recommended way to send parcels to Kvikkjokk if you are able to send it from within Sweden.



The mountains

1. Do you sell maps of the area?

Yes, we sell both Lantmäteriets and Calypso maps. We have maps for the entire area. 

2. Is there cell phone coverage?

Only Telia"s network has full coverage in Kvikkjokk. Do not expect to be able to call from the mountains however. For coverage in the mountains you need to use a satellite phone.

Emergency phones are available in the cabins but may only be used during emergencies.

3. When are the mountain huts open?

There are different opening hours for each cottage and area. For STF huts, visit www.svenskaturistforeningen.se and cottages in Padjelanta National: www.padjelanta.com 

4. Can I pre-book beds in mountain huts?

Mountain cabins can not be booked in advance. But all who show up at a cabin is offered roof over their head, regardless if it is full or not. But during high season this may mean you have to sleep on the floor.

5. How"s the weather?

Weather changes quickly in the mountains. It can be sunny one moment only to suddenly change to rain or blizzard. For a more detailed weather forecast see www.smhi.se. But it"s rare that the longer forecasts are correct. Pack your backpack for all kinds of weather.

 6. When are the water levels low/high in the mountains?

This is a difficult question. Rain can cause high water, even in September. Snow melting in the mountains provides much water in heat and / or rain. A tip when wading is that if it does not rain, it is usually lower water levels in the streams in the morning because snow melting decreases during the nights.

 7. When is the mosquito season?

Mosquito feed on flower nectar and are therefore active between late June and middle of August. The amount varies greatly from year to year, between different days and different local sites. But the tree line tends to be a fairly mosquito-free area.

 8. Do you sell fishing licenses and where can you fish?

 9. Do you sell tickets to lodging cabins in Padjelanta National Park?

Yes, because the cottages in Padjelanta National Park can not take card payments, you can purchase tickets at Kvikkjokk Mountain Lodge among other places. For more information go to www.padjelanta.com
